Imagine it! Create it! Fly it! Dynamically engage older-youth by appealing to their innate curiosities and innovative tendencies. Ripped from the headlines, session presenters will model and actively engage attendees in a highly effective, student-centered learning methodology through a hands-on STEM activity exploring the growing field of drones and unmanned aircraft. The after school STEM methodology presented in this session integrates various research-based learning strategies which are proven to increase academic outcomes and appeal to targeted populations. Participants will leave the session having completed the STEM activity, have a better understanding of a student-centered learning process ideal for math & science “achievement-gap” participants, and will discuss effective methods for measuring & assessing outcomes which align to Common Core State Standards.
